The Ceremony of Wings

The Ceremony of Wings

A Small Gift While I Work on Queen’s Road

While I’m in the final stages of preparing Queen’s Road, I wanted to share something a little different in the meantime.

The Ceremony of Wings is a short story, offered freely as a gift. It’s a quieter piece than Queen’s Road, leaning into mythic realism and gentle fantasy rather than dystopia, but it comes from the same place in my writing. Character first. Interior lives. Ordinary moments that carry weight.

The story is set on the Somerset coast, a landscape that continues to shape my work. Somerset is not just a backdrop for me. It’s part of the emotional fabric of these stories. The weather, the cliffs, the stillness, the way time seems to slow. All of it feeds into how my characters move through the world.

Although The Ceremony of Wings is different in tone from Queen’s Road, it reflects my wider approach to storytelling. I’m drawn to stories led by people rather than plot, by atmosphere rather than spectacle. Stories that trust the reader to sit with quiet moments and find meaning there.

This short story is shared freely, simply as a Thank you for being here while I work towards what comes next. There’s no sign-up required, no catch.

Just a story, offered openly.

If you enjoy character-led fiction, a strong sense of place, and stories that linger rather than rush, I hope this one stays with you for a while.
